Do you hate oatmeal?
In this post, I’ll be talking about a quick and tasty oatmeal recipe, tips to reduce high cholesterol, and why you should fact-check things you see on social media.
Oatmeal is a traditional breakfast menu item. Even though it has many nutritional benefits, some of us rarely eat it. Why? Well, one reason I know is that plain oatmeal it’s boring. But it doesn’t have to be. There are many recipes online to make oats interesting, even for kids.
We found out recently that my partner has high cholesterol. Eggs are the likely suspects. We fell into the daily routine of having eggs at breakfast because they are easy to prepare.
Fact-Check
I saw a Twitter thread recommending that you eat up to 7 eggs every day to prevent heart disease. A single egg can provide 62% of your recommended daily value of cholesterol, according to USDA. If high cholesterol is a cause of heart attacks, what is going to happen if you live on 7 eggs daily? It is important to fact-check the information you see online. Should you stop eating eggs? no. Eggs are nutritious but eating them every day may lead to health issues.
Tips
It is important to do a full doctor’s checkup every now and then to know what is going on inside. With so many changes in our lifestyle over the last 50 years, you cannot assume that just because you are young everything is good inside.
We have started several things to bring my partner’s cholesterol back to a normal level. Here are some things that you can do if you have high cholesterol. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week. Track what you eat. Knowing the total cholesterol in a meal is important to remain within your daily recommended value.
Oatmeal is recommended by Mayo Clinic as a food that may help in reducing high cholesterol. Your healthcare provider may also recommend that you take a fiber supplement.
Conclusion
Have everything in moderation. Meal prepping will allow you to have what’s needed instead of what’s quick. Always fact-check what you see on social media. Your health is your responsibility. It is good to visit your doctor for a thorough examination, even if you are young.
Oatmeal Recipe
2 cups of oatmeal
2 cups of milk (coconut, almond, or your choice)
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Apple
Honey or sugar
Vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Preparation
Dice an apple and add it to a small pot with some sugar or honey. If using sugar, you can tip a little water to help the grains dissolve. Once it starts bubbling, add some cinnamon and turn the heat on low to cook and caramelize.
Add milk and oats to a pan over medium-low heat. Next, you may add your spices; nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Follow with salt. Stir throughout the process so that it does not stick in the pot.
Once oatmeal is cooked, add some to a bowl and top with apple sauce, more cinnamon, and other fresh fruits.
Enjoy!
