We are bombarded with information, even when we sleep. Many of us suffer from information overload. That’s one reason why some of us have stopped watching the news. But if we are going to socialize with others, and interact with the world, then we need to know what’s going on.
Journalists often write headlines to grab attention. It is our duty to read beyond that headline before forming an opinion. I try to check several sources before forming an opinion on a matter. I find that approach helpful, even for the usual family debates. If a topic means much to us, then it is worth researching to find the facts.
The internet has many benefits but it also comes with some dark sides. It is easy for people to put anything online and say that this is true. Many topics get some people heated these days, even when they do not know the facts.
Our journey to find the truth can be beneficial in many ways. By finding the truth, we can educate others, provide justice, or even save lives.
One reason for the spread of false information is our desire to fit in. What if someone starts talking about a topic that we know nothing or very little about? It is okay to let them know that we do not have enough information or facts to discuss it.
I have discovered that waiting can reveal the facts. Some sources rush to be first instead of being right. As we go throughout this year, let us gather facts, and think for ourselves. Our opinions should not mimic those of our favorite politicians or network. Keep this in mind; someone can be sincere but wrong.
